    Sexual Assault Crisis in Military Still a Reality - Report

NAVY veteran Heath Phillips, sexual assault survivor, speaks out. 
          

"Heath Phillips was just 17-years-old when he says he was sexually assaulted during several occasions in 1988 by a group of fellow sailors. He tells TODAY’s Megyn Kelly how despite reporting it to his superiors, he was called a "momma's boy" and told to "toughen up." After originally receiving a “less-than-honorable” discharge, Phillips fought for his dignity, and with the help of an organization called Protect Our Defenders now has a “more-than-honorable” discharge."

Trina McDonald lives in Puyallup, WA and served in the Navy from 1988-1990. She was one of the subjects of the award-winning documentary The Invisible War, which focused on the crisis of sexual assault in the military...She is also working on a biography and advocates for Suicide Prevention and Reduction of MST in the Female Veteran population.
